# Copilot tools and actions

Learn which Compute Copilot tools can inspect instances and run confirmed operations.

## Tool categories

Copilot tools are grouped by the data they read and the action they propose. Read-only tools explain the current state. Action tools create a confirmation plan before changing a resource.

| Category | Examples | Result |
| ------------- | ------------------------------------------ | ----------------------------- |
| Inventory | Instance, shape, image, and network lookup | Current configuration |
| Observability | Metrics, events, and maintenance lookup | Evidence for an explanation |
| Comparison | Configuration and state comparison | Differences and likely impact |
| Operations | Power, rebuild, resize, or network action | Confirmed work request |

## Action confirmation

Copilot shows the target, requested change, expected impact, and rollback considerations before an action runs. Review each item and select **Confirm** only when the target and timing are correct.

## Procedure

1. Select an instance and describe the outcome you need.
2. Review the evidence Copilot gathered from read-only tools.
3. Inspect the proposed action and its target resource.
4. Select **Confirm** to submit the work request.
5. Open the work request and verify the final instance state.

## Tool errors

- Missing permission: ask a space administrator for the required capability.
- Unsupported action: use the instance details page for the supported operation.
- Stale target: refresh the session and select the instance again.
