# Select a capacity type

Learn the select a capacity type workflow, fields, resource states, permissions, and troubleshooting in Cypacky Compute.

## Use cases

A capacity type defines the resource boundary for an instance. On-demand Capacity suits elastic workloads, while Dedicated Host suits isolation and predictable placement.

## Before you begin

In the capacity cards, select **On-demand Capacity** or **Dedicated Host**. Review available shapes, price, and image compatibility after switching.

## Page fields

| Type | Use case |
| ------------------ | ------------------------------------------- |
| On-demand Capacity | General instances from a shared pool |
| Dedicated Host | Workloads requiring physical host isolation |

## Procedure

1. Log in to the dashboard and open **Compute**.
2. Open the instance, network, image, or operations page for this topic.
3. Select the target resource and confirm its state and space.
4. Complete the fields and submit the action.
5. Open work requests or details to confirm the final state.

## States and troubleshooting

- Action unavailable: check resource state, role permissions, and project quota.
- Target missing: clear filters and confirm region and space.
- Processing takes too long: open the work request and record its ID and latest error.
- Action failed: keep the original resource state, correct the message, and retry.
