# Select a region

Learn the select a region workflow, fields, resource states, permissions, and troubleshooting in Cypacky Compute.

## Use cases

A region affects latency, availability domains, image catalog, and price. Placing an instance near users and dependencies usually reduces latency.

## Before you begin

Select **Region** first. Compare latency, compliance, capacity, and price before selecting an availability domain and shape.

## Page fields

| Factor | Guidance |
| ------------- | -------------------------------------- |
| Latency | Stay close to users and dependencies |
| Availability | Verify shape and capacity availability |
| Data location | Meet organizational requirements |
| Price | Compare the regional summary |

## Procedure

1. Log in to the dashboard and open **Compute**.
2. Open the instance, network, image, or operations page for this topic.
3. Select the target resource and confirm its state and space.
4. Complete the fields and submit the action.
5. Open work requests or details to confirm the final state.

## States and troubleshooting

- Action unavailable: check resource state, role permissions, and project quota.
- Target missing: clear filters and confirm region and space.
- Processing takes too long: open the work request and record its ID and latest error.
- Action failed: keep the original resource state, correct the message, and retry.
