# Select an instance shape

Learn the select an instance shape workflow, fields, resource states, permissions, and troubleshooting in Cypacky Compute.

## Use cases

A shape defines CPU, memory, system disk, data disk, and network rate. Changing it recalculates image compatibility and price.

## Before you begin

In **Shape**, select a configuration. Estimate peak demand for production, then use metrics to validate whether resizing is needed.

## Page fields

| Resource | Purpose |
| ------------ | ---------------------------------------- |
| CPU | Compute and concurrency |
| Memory | Cache, runtime, and database working set |
| Disk | System, application, and data capacity |
| Network rate | Instance throughput ceiling |

## Procedure

1. Log in to the dashboard and open **Compute**.
2. Open the instance, network, image, or operations page for this topic.
3. Select the target resource and confirm its state and space.
4. Complete the fields and submit the action.
5. Open work requests or details to confirm the final state.

## States and troubleshooting

- Action unavailable: check resource state, role permissions, and project quota.
- Target missing: clear filters and confirm region and space.
- Processing takes too long: open the work request and record its ID and latest error.
- Action failed: keep the original resource state, correct the message, and retry.
